|Dan:||Season 5 in your dreams, with me. Uh, they haven't asked, they won't ask.|
|Jeff:||If they asked you, and let's say they gave you the keys of the kingdom|
|Dan:||I am a professional story teller and that's an amazing third act so I yeah, I would definitely, I'm not, I would not be closed to that amazing story.|
|Jeff:||Are you bummed out they haven't? I mean obviously they're not going to ask you but|
|Dan:||No I, see this is, this is the thing, this is the reason, I refused to be bummed out they haven't asked. God, that's not fair. I get to be happy they haven't asked, that is my luxury.|
|Jeff:||Have you fantasized-|
|Dan:||That is why when Sony reached out to my agency and said, 'What Dan would say,' My response to my agent was like, 'When you guys figure out a yes or no question to ask me, all together as one collection of suits, I will then have a question to answer.' I will be god damned if I'm gonna fall-I was a nerd in high school, I know how this shit works. I was supposed to go like, 'Yeah I'd go back!' And then get an email from Bob Greenblatt going, 'I'd heard you'd said you'd come back, uh uh bitch. I don't know who you think you are but The Voice is doing real good. We don't need your ass.' And I'm like, 'What the fuck did I do? I just got dumped twice! I don't even like you people! I'm happy in forensics alright you can take your cafeteria table and stick it up your ass. All you guys do is sit there and talk about how thin you are. I have friends in the drama club, we're, we're close. We go to Rocky Horror together. I have meaningful relationships, I don't care how popular you are. I do a little bit, it was fun.'|
At yesterday’s Harmontown, Dan Harmon addressed the whole rumor about him possibly returning to Community for the new season. Someone gave a garbage summary of it on Tumblr that managed to not settle the issue at all and still kept it obnoxiously cliffhangery. It’s bugging the hell out of me so, for those of you who don’t want to have to listen through the podcast (it’s pretty early on in it though), here’s my clearer sum-up of the situation because I’m not a twat with my words:
Harmon’s explanation of the “returning to Community” rumor is that, since the show is actually produced by Sony who then sells it to NBC, their main goal is to get the series to or near 100 episodes with the core goal of making it viable for syndication so they can rake in the big moneys.
They don’t give a shit about the quality of the episodes. They just want to get near that number so, most likely (and this is really just Dan’s speculation), they hinted at the possibility of Harmon returning during series renewal negotiations just to sweeten the deal for NBC and generate press. Now that the show’s been renewed and nobody cares anyway, some assistant probably talked to some other assistant over drinks and mentioned that this conversation occurred and that’s how it became a “story.”
SO, IN OTHER WORDS, it’s just a rumor that Dan Harmon knows of through the same channels we do and nobody’s approached him about it or anything. To quote him:
“I don’t think it’s a question that I would even have a yes or no answer to. I don’t think that that is a choice that I have.”
i just listened to the episode. He said Sony contacted his agent a week or so back, and also makes it pretty clear if they asked him to be show runner again he’d do it. He did say he doesn’t think that’s likely, though.
The first time I say I love you, your face
crumbles. You look at me
the way man stares in terror
at the stars and the sea.
You grasp your head, fist
your hair, hiss, whisper why me
why me I am weak I am
dirt I am dust I am
Why you? Because
the earth is made of dust
and dirt and you are as
essential to me as earth
is to sky; you give me something
to set my sun against.
The dirt and the dust are not
weak. I could build a house
out of you; you are the roof
when I rain.
